Monitoring and Assessment on Building Blocks for Impact and Improvement

Description

This course will look at how teachers can use Building Blocks to monitor, assess and report on their school’s curriculum from teacher’s planning.

Monitoring the Curriculum.

Course participants will be shown how to:

• Run a monitoring report of their curriculum offering on what has been planned and covered. This will include coverage of all curriculum areas, the Cross Curricular Responsibilities of LLC, DCF and Maths & Numeracy, Areas of Learning (Foundation Phase), Subjects (Key Stage 2), the Four Purposes, Assessment for Learning and the new Professional Teaching Standards.

• From teacher’s planning find aspects of the curriculum that need to be covered to ensure the full breadth of learning experiences.

• Use the ‘Show Recommend’ feature on Building Blocks to suggest learning experiences that will ensure coverage of the whole curriculum (LLC and Maths and Numeracy) in using and applying curriculum skills in meaningful contexts.

• Run a coverage report for individual classes, year groups with more than 1 class, Key Stages and Whole School.

Formative Assessment.

Course participants will be shown how to:

• Set, change default levels for individual pupils for all subjects.
• Formatively assess individual pupils from teacher’s planning.
• Change levels of individual pupils that did not match to your planning, expectations

Reporting

Course participants will be shown how to:

• Run a pupil profile (Percentage Report) on a selected area of the curriculum on how a pupil is working against the taught curriculum, the whole curriculum or filter for FPP, Levels or Outcomes
• Run a Skills Report for individual pupils, again showing how they are working against the taught curriculum, the FPP or Levels and Outcomes
• Run a Challenge Report for an individual pupil to show how they are working against aspects of the curriculum through each learning experience
• Run a Class Report (Overview) for all pupils. This complies all individual pupil profiles into a grid matching their attainment to Outcomes or Levels.
• Run specialist Foundation Phase Profile Reports for individual pupils, class, classes against the Compact or Full Profile and how to export these to your school MIS.
• Run a variety of reports against date and criteria to show progress and value added against individuals, specific groups, classes, subjects, etc…
