Straight to the Top with Singapore Maths (Towers Hotel)

Join us in preparing for the new curriculum and fundamental pedagogical changes in Wales.

The focus of this two-day workshop-style conference will be implementing Singapore's problem solving approach to mathematical instruction, which reects the pedagogy of the Donaldson curriculum; A curriculum for Wales, A curriculum for life. Through a series of interactive tasks, teachers are supported in meeting the needs of our increasingly diverse classrooms.

World renowned, Professor Yeap Ban Har will lead the workshops in two locations in Wales. His work in classrooms is evidence-based, practical and, quite simply, inspirational. Using Bar Modelling and other visual representations of problems, Ban Har bridges the thinking between the concrete, the pictorial and the abstract concepts
of mathematics.

Prof. Yeap, in his usual relaxed and entertaining style, will model high quality teaching, and connect instructional practice to solid educational research. His approach exemplies and crystallises Donaldson’s Pedagogical Principles through the lens of mathematics. Not only does he do all of this in a way that empowers teachers to deepen their understanding of mathematical pedagogy, but also to apply what they have learned immediately.

Professor Yeap taught at the National Institute of Education for the last twelve years before taking up his present positions as the Principal of Marshall Cavendish Institute, a global teacher professional development institute, and as the Director of Curriculum and Professional Development at Pathlight School, Singapore, an autism-orientated school.

We recommend that ‘Straight to the Top with Singapore Maths’ is combined with ‘Dierentiation as Enrichment – Singapore Style’ to give schools an all-round view of high quality mathematics teaching for the new curriculum.
