Description
Moving Mountains! Talking In Children’s First Language…Movement!
Course led by: Jasmine Pasch
There are powerful ways in which body movement impacts on the development of the brain and nervous system. By accessing body intelligence in playful, spontaneous ways we can help youngsters to build a felt sense of self from the inside, with benefits on academic, social, emotional and physical functioning.
Objectives
Course participants will have the opportunity to:
- Develop an understanding, through practical experience, of why children move in the ways that they do, explaining the sensory and motor foundations for learning and development.
- Consider the significant developmental patterns of the first year of life, and how these form the foundations for later learning, brain development, health and well being (based on the work of Bette Lamont “The Brain Nanny”, Seattle, USA)
- Reflect on ways to improve movement and play opportunities for young children, indoors and outdoors.
- Gain a repertoire of games, ideas and “irresistible invitations”, using a variety of resources to extend practitioners’ skills and children’s experiences.
- Acquire ten good reasons to include rough and tumble play in your setting.
The session will include practical exercises (so come suitably dressed to
move), small group work, and whole group discussion.
