‘Time’ and ‘Place’ are two of the most challenging concepts to explore with young children. Since these ideas relate to the world beyond the school, experiences outlined on this course support children in developing lifelong attitudes towards sharing the planet and being aware of the needs of others. This course supports practitioners in developing holistic learning that builds on the children’s first hand experiences in a practical, achievable and exciting way.
Course participants will have the opportunity to:
• Understand how first hand, everyday experiences contribute to developing ‘Contexts for Learning’ with children
• Identify a range of entry points for learners through which preferred learning styles and interests are respected and nurtured
• Consider how responsive planning can support the development of skills and open the door to the unexpected
• Reflect on the close relationship between active learning and skill development
• Share tips and ideas to take back to the classroom and start the next day!
