The Wonder Years

Description

What happens, or doesn’t happen, to children in the earliest years of their lives is of critical importance, both to their immediate well-being and to their future. If you received the best start in your earliest years of life, you are more likely to have grown healthily, developed language and learning capacities, gone to school and led a productive, rewarding life. Every child must be ensured the best start in life.

This course is ideal for anyone who works with young children and will offer fascinating insights into the way babies and children grow and develop, as well as outlining ways in which we can extend or inhibit children’s potential.

Objectives

Course participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Reflect on key areas of development for young children and re-visit the nature vs. nurture debate
  • Consider the responsibilities of practitioners working with children from ‘Birth to Five’
  • Identify the characteristics of quality environments which support all aspects of development for young children
  • Explore the value of ‘experiences’ for young children, as opposed to ‘activities’
  • Explore the critical role of observation and assessment within the planning process for those working with children from ‘Birth to Five’
  • Evaluate the importance of partnerships between the adults involved with the child
