Description

There are many classroom strategies that are part of the repertoire of good teaching. A core part of the Foundation Phase is the sound use of observational practice for the purpose of gathering information on learning. But what actually happens to the information that is gathered? During this course we will be considering not just the ‘how’ of collecting information on learning, but more importantly, emphasising that it's what we do with it that really matters and makes a difference to children and their learning.

Objectives

Course participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Consider the important place of quality observation for children in Years 1 and 2
  • Explore the relationship between effective observation and meaningful assessment
  • Review WAG guidance on observation and assessment
  • Further develop strategies and skills for observing children and feeding our assessments in to ‘next step’ planning
  • Acquire practical tips to ensure that observation and assessment is manageable and realistic
