Developing Positive Behaviour Strategies

Description

‘It is estimated that over 20 per cent of teachers leave education within the first three years of qualifying and up to 50 per cent within five years. Many of these teachers cite the poor behaviour of their pupils as one of the principal reasons for their departure.’Phil Craig

For this reason alone, it is essential that teachers entering the profession are well-equipped with a wide range of strategies for managing challenging behaviour. This course aims to provide support and practical ideas to teachers new to the profession as well as those who are looking for new strategies and approaches.

Objectives

Course participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the relationship between positive behaviour management, self-esteem and well-being for the child and the teacher
  • Consider strategies for positive behaviour management
  • Discuss the challenges and identify possible solutions for managing large groups of children
  • Consider the balance between the needs of individual children and the collective group when managing challenging behaviour
  • Network and share strategies with colleagues

Target Audience

NQTs/EPD and Practitioners returning to the profession
