Following Children’s Interests in Year 1 and 2

Description

The Foundation Phase pedagogy promotes a balance between child-initiated and adult led learning. This course explores ways in which practitioners can identify and build upon children’s interests, whilst ensuring that opportunities for discrete teaching are also created. Case studies will be used to exemplify effective practice.

Objectives

Course participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore ways of getting to know what makes your group of children ‘tick’
  • Consider how different learning styles influence self-initiated learning experiences and activities
  • Consider different ‘entry points’ for learners within their class
  • Engage with different case studies illustrating how children’s interests have been followed (appropriate to Year 1 and 2)
  • Consider how the environment can support or inhibit individual interests

Target Audience
