Enlivening Enquiry: Understanding Investigative Science

Objectives

Course participant will have the opportunity to:

• Increase their understanding of investigative science
• Experience a variety of engaging contexts that could lead to enquiry work
• Look at strategies for improving pupils’ skills in planning, developing and reflecting on their learning
• Consider progression in the development of skills across FP, KS2 and KS3

Course Providers

Newby-Jones & Vicki Scale-Constantinou

Karen Newby Jones has experience in the secondary and tertiary sector and has supported primary and special schools as a school improvement adviser. Over time she has held the posts of assistant head, pastoral team leader and curriculum leader in a number of schools in Wales and England. As well as developing the Welsh Bac she has been an examiner at GCSE and A Level and a moderator for teacher assessment. Presently she leads the science curriculum support team in Cardiff alongside her school improvement role and is a member of the Association for Science Education.

Vicki Scale-Constantinou
Vicki Scale-Constantinou is a qualified primary teacher and has experience of teaching Nursery to Year 6. She is currently working for the Cardiff Advisory Service and currently holds the post of Primary Science Advisory Teacher as well as leading on Building Learning Power and new approaches to the Foundation Phase and Curriculum 2008.
