Autumn Conferences 2010

Where next for the curriculum in our primary school?

Description

Conference with Mick Waters and Peter Hall-Jones

Does a slimmed down national expectation make a difference to learning? Will a skills driven curriculum really enhance childhood? Does a slimmer curriculum make learning more effective and teaching easier? How does the curriculum affect standards? What is happening in other parts of the world? All of these are important questions…but does it really make a difference?

This conference will explore what good schools do to design and organise the learning experience for children. Whatever the content of the national curriculum is, the learning as it meets the child needs to be irresistible.

Objectives

Senior leaders and staff with whole school responsibility for teaching and learning or curriculum will be offered:

  • How to make learning irresistible
  • How to enjoy the learning adventure
  • How schools can arrange learning
  • How should it be different in challenged schools…or outstanding schools
  • How to design for progression
  • What good learning looks like
  • What schools in Wales need to think about
There will be practical suggestions and guidance for use in schools. The conference will be fast paced with short talks and explanations, guided discussion, video extracts and small group activities. It is intended that the conference will be enjoyable, practical and worthwhile.
