First Week of Courses a Tremendous Success! The Learning Partnership delivered its first week of courses at The Mountain Gate Hotel a mile from the Training and Resource Centre which will be open next week. Mud Pies Daisy Chains and Rose Petal Perfumes was a tremendous success. This course was well attended and laid a great foundation for the week. Firm Foundations a 2 day course aimed at Headteachers, Assistant Headteachers and Foundation Phase Leaders left many of the course participants buzzing with excitement. As a result of this initial course one school has already booked the training and resource centre in term two for the whole of their staff (35). Our first consultant to offer training was Ros Bailey who presented a thought provoking day of training on well-being. Thanks to all our enthusiastic participants! The Learning Partnership UpdateOur building, based in Tycroes, Carmarthenshire, is nearing completion. It will be ready slightly later than planned (thanks to the weather) and will house a first class conference suite, an imaginatively stocked resource centre and a coffee shop. Schools are already booking the conference suite for whole school INSET days and courses are filling up quite quickly. It is anticipated that The Training and Conference Centre will be completed next week. It will take a few days to get the centre ready for courses though once the resource centre is ready anyone who has an interest in Early Years Education and especially the Foundation Phase, should come along and pay us a visit. The resource centre will be an Aladdin's Cave of creativity and imagination for teachers involved with The Foundation Phase in Wales. |

A Toxic ChildhoodThe Learning Partnership is creating an Early Years Centre of Excellence for teachers in Wales. We have attracted well known experts in early childhood education and our last course before the winter break will see Sue Palmer deliver her course on 'A Toxic Childhood'. Sue Palmer, a former primary headteacher, is an independent writer, presenter and consultant on primary education, notably literacy. She has written over 200 books, TV programmes and software packages for children and teachers, and acted as an independent consultant to the DfES, National Literacy Trust, Basic Skills Agency, numerous educational publishers and the BBC. Sue’s best-selling book Toxic Childhood: how modern life is damaging our children… and what we can do about it was her first for a more general audience, and helped spark a national debate about the nature of contemporary childhood. Sue works as a consultant and author and is currently working on 21st Century Boys for publication in 2009.
