Working With Super Heroes

Description

Course led by: Glenda Dudley and Wendy Thomas

This course will offer participants the opportunity to explore issues arising from the debate about Super Hero play. Both the positive opportunities that arise, as well as the concerns about violent play or the re-enactment of storylines, will be used as a starting point for considering both ethical and philosophical teaching opportunities with children, alongside story building and linguistic skills.

Objectives

Course participants will have the opportunity to:

• Debate and discuss the influence of the media and cult figures on young children
• Consider brain development in boys and girls and the implications for learning
• Reflect upon high quality provision for imaginative and creative play
• Turn ‘Super Hero Play’ into enriching learning experiences that support well-being
• Create scenarios that explore ethics through play
• Gain an understanding of starting points for philosophical discussions with children
• Explore a wealth of practical suggestions for motivating and engaging young learners in sustained shared thinking
